My goal in creating FindAJobAlready is to make the most efficient and useful tool for jobseekers looking for work and employers looking to hire jobseekers.
The first step was to make the site free. The Internet these days is all about free services. Since there are only two employees on this site (me, Barak and my programmer, Alex) we can support the site with advertising.
The next step was to come up with a design that would be comfortable, kind and non-threatening. I wanted the fonts to be large and the images on the site to be optimistic. I figured if someone is looking for a job, especially in these times, they need to be encouraged. So, I tried to build that feeling of hope and encouragement into the design.
Then my goal was to make the site as useful as possible. I looked employment sites across the web and integrated what I thought were the most useful tools. I also came up with many of the ideas on the site on my own (often while in the shower or daveing in shul in the mornings).
Here are some features you'll find on the site:
- Ajax. I tried to integrate Ajax into the site whenever I felt it was relevant and useful. For example, search results are sorted without you needing to refresh the page.
- Simple layout. I tried to make each page so that my ninety-two year old grandmother would understand what was going on. At one point I sat her down in front of a computer and showed her the site. She said "People are going to love this site! I have a good feeling about it." I plan on continually updating and improving the site, so I'm sure parts will change based on users feedback and usage.
- Automation. I wanted to add a feature to let our site search for jobs or resumes so you don't have to. You'll see in the "My Account" pages the option to "Email Me Job (or Resume) Suggestions". With this option you can set a search bot that will go through the search results on a daily, weekly or monthly basis and send you results based on variables you set up.
- Folders. I setup a folders system to help you store and keep track of jobs or resumes that you're interested in or applied for.
- Ratings. Every job offer and resume can receive a one time rating from users.
- Built-in communication system. Every email that is sent or received will be stored and tracked through the site so you can access it later.
- Similar jobs and recommended jobs and resumes. The site will automatically recommend similar jobs and resumes or jobs and resumes that match what your browsing history shows you're interested in.
I'm planning a lot more for the site, but these are some of the basic features you'll find now.
