Position Overview With a technical background and proven web/online software development experience, the Web Architect is uniquely qualified to understand the big picture of development and translate that into technical requirements and schedules. The Web Architect gathers metrics, challenges and sets standards & guidelines, understands data and work flow, thinks strategically, and defines and directs the development process. The Web Architect works with the development team as an independent auditor, consultant, and director. As a key member of the EA Sports Online team, you will be responsible for technically directing online initiatives for EA Sports. Key Responsibilities " Reporting to the CTO of the group, implement his guidelines in Web technology choices, Web systems design and SDLC implementation. " Working with producers, map product designs to engineering requirements and ensure proper implementation of product features in all Web projects. " Working closely with the Development Director, lead the Web team and provide technical leadership on existing and future Web projects. " Working with the Web team engineers, co-design, influence and approve software architecture; write technical briefs and other design documents and ensure that design is reviewed. " Oversee the application of the approved SDLC for all Web projects' milestones. Work with producers on requirements, engineers on coding and unit testing, QA staff on testing, release team on builds and releases and operations team on deployment. " Be accountable for Web projects' code quality; ensure that code is properly reviewed, is reusable and testable. " Bear responsibility for overall Web software performance; defining metrics and setting targets. " Oversee all internal and external project technical dependencies, risks and critical paths; ensuring contingency plan is in place; recommending solutions and approving plans & timelines; understanding overall impact on all stakeholders. Required Technical Skills and Experience " B.Sc. /M.Sc. in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent training and professional experience. " A minimum of 10 years industry technical experience " 5+ years experience with LAMP technologies - Linux, Apache, and PHP. " Knowledge of at least one PHP framework is required. Knowledge of the Symfony PHP framework highly desired. " Solid knowledge of front-end Web technologies including HTML, DOM, JavaScript, and CSS. Knowledge of at least one JavaScript framework is required. " Knowledge of Web graphics, video streaming and FLASH. " 2+ years experience with Java and/or C++. Knowledge of Python and Ruby would be beneficial. " Strong knowledge of relational databases - MySQL, Postgresql and Oracle preferred. " Demonstrated knowledge of effective software engineering practices with a thorough understanding of all phases of the software development lifecycle. " Project management skills demonstrated by the ability to define tasks in a well organized manner, based on proper resource and time management. " Excellent detail-oriented, problem solving skills. Candidate must be able to quickly identify issues and resolve them. " The Web Architect must be able to understand and (ideally) perform any task performed by programmers. Additional Skills: " Game development experience is not required, but would be an asset. " Prior experience in a Lead role or in a Software Architect capacity is required.
