College and Career Pathways, Inc. (CCP), is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization that offers school-site and community-based college access and career exploration services to elementary, middle, and high school students throughout Prince George's County and the greater DC Metro area. Our mission is to facilitate access to postsecondary institutions for underserved students, while increasing their awareness of the wide range of educational and career opportunities available to them. School-based College and Career Advisors collaborate with and support the existing guidance program by serving as a resource for college and career information for students, parents, faculty and staff. Working with school counselors and principals, Advisors help to facilitate access to postsecondary institution for student participants, increase student and parent awareness of educational and career opportunities, and guide students through the career exploration and college application process. Specifically, duties of the College and Career Advisor include:
o Providing individual academic advisement to:
? ensure students are taking the appropriate caseloads and are on track academically to meet their educational and vocational goals; and
? help them develop and implement postsecondary plans.
o Helping students select schools of interest and complete college applications (including essays);
o Helping students identify and apply for scholarships and financial aid;
o Assisting students and parents with interpreting and comparing financial aid packages offered by colleges and universities;
o Conducting workshops on SATs, financing your education, parent involvement, and a variety of career development topics;
o Handling registration for the ACT and SAT, monitoring vouchers and fee waivers, and reporting trends in scores;
o Administering career assessments;
o Identifying summer enrichment/internship opportunities for students;
o Guiding students as they make the transition from high school to college;
o Coordinating the Career Mentorship Program at the site;
o Maintaining positive relationships with school representatives, college admissions offices, scholarship agencies, and corporate/community partners;
o Helping to plan CCP Career Connection experiences;
o Helping to coordinate college tours and visits from college representatives;
o Providing early awareness activities to partner elementary and middle schools;
o Maintaining all records and data on CCP students and entering appropriate information into the organizational database for ongoing accountability and end-of-year reports.
