In 2007, the Homeless Prenatal Program added “achieving economic stability” to our list of success factors for the families whom we serve. One way of aiding this was to encourage parents to file their taxes and avail themselves of the often unused tax credits for low income working families- earned income credit and child tax credit. We joined the VITA tax program, a group of organizations in the Bay Area providing volunteers to
offer free tax services for low income families during the January – April annual tax season. The program has grown exponentially and in the 2009 tax season HPP served 573 families who received $274,563. of earned income tax credit. HPP is looking for a Tax Program Associate to coordinate the VITA tax program for the upcoming tax season.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is for a person with strong organizational skills. It requires recruiting and organizing volunteers, scheduling tax appointments, and responding to clients’ questions
by phone and in person. While tax preparation is one aspect of the job, the smooth administration (for both volunteers and clients) of the VITA Tax Program is essential.
