PCIS is pleased to be recruiting a Systems Administrator for our client - a Vancouver-based information and communications company. The System Administrator will manage the daily activities of the operations and maintenance of the company's local and wide area networks. The right person must be able to set up, configure, monitor, secure, and optimize Windows and Mac-based systems and applications across several locations, supporting roughly 200 users. Daily activities can include: network administration; installation and troubleshooting of network components; managing backup and restore strategies; optimizing network and server performance; guiding best practices; assisting with the requirements analysis and planning of network capacity and performance; communicating effectively with users, management and Tier 1 support. The Right Candidate Has: Strong English language skills, both written & verbal ITIL familiarity, certification is a bonus 2+ years as a MCSE Good people skills A service oriented nature and is able to mentor and provide guidance to the support team Strong organizational skills and is detail oriented The ability to work well with others and perform as a team member Knowledge of latest industry trends, directions, and developments Industry experience working as a Systems Administrator/Engineer in a production environment The ability to travel throughout BC & Alberta, expected travel time is 25% Duties & Responsibilities: Install and maintain operating systems and application software on workstations and servers Maintain switches, firewalls, tape backup, storage, and related network hardware Monitor and troubleshoot network and server performance Monitor and troubleshoot Internet connectivity and related areas including firewalls and DNS Monitor event logs on servers and firewalls; administer and maintain network monitoring software, make recommendations to solve issues or take appropriate action to fix problems Backup servers, run integrity checks on backups, perform restores, maintain tape rotation strategy, and monitor off-site tape storage/retrieval Provide Tier 2/3 support for LAN/WAN and server issues Support and assist with mentoring help desk personnel Participate in short and long term planning of networks, servers, and back office applications Manage IT projects related to the installation/configuration/upgrade/migration of network hardware components and servers. Qualifications & Experience: 2 years minimum experience working with: o Microsoft Server 2003/8 o Windows Active Directory o Microsoft Exchange 2003/07 o Microsoft SQL Server 2000/5 o Network switches, routers, and firewalls, preferably HP/Juniper o Microsoft Terminal Services and Citrix o VMWare ESX o IBM Blade Centers, SANs, and tape libraries o Experience with MS SQL Databases o Industry experience working as a Systems Administrator/Engineer in a production environment o Major Industry Certification (MCSA/MCSE, CCNA,ITIL) Our client is offering a competitive salary + bonus, benefits after 3 month standard probation, matching RRSP contributions after one year, 3 weeks vacation to start and a central Vancouver office location.
